4. BISCAY COAST TOUR

Guests will be picked up at Bizkaia Aretoa, by 14:15, after morning event and lunch. All guests will get on three different buses and will be driven towards the Coast of Biscay.

BISCAY BRIDGE PHOTOSTOP + GETXO. The origins of the Bridge go right back to the end of the 19th century. The objective behind the construction of the Biscay Bridge was to link the two banks of the mouth of the river Nervión without hindering the shipping. It was designed by Mr Alberto Palacio y Elissague, also known for his participation in the construction of the Cristal Palace in Madrid's Retiro Park. The Vizcaya Bridge was the first shuttle bridge built in the world made with a metallic structure. It is situ-ated at the mouth of the Ibaizabal river, at the point where Bilbao's navigable estuary opens out to the sea till the 19th century. Thanks to the investments and private initiative, on 13th July 2006 in Vilnius, capital of Lithuania, the World Committee of UNESCO declared the Vizcaya Hanging Bridge a World Heritage Site, thus making the Bridge become the First World Heritage Site in the Basque Country, as well as the First Industrial Heritage Site recognised in Spain. After a short photostop at this impressive bridge, the group will be driven through Getxo, along the avenues housing the majestic mansions of the local aristocracy and upper classes, which have given this village its luxurious residence inheritance.

SAN JUAN DE GAZTELUGATXE. Each participant will enjoy a refreshment at the outdoors part of the Eneperi restaurant, in Bakio, while enjoying the magnificent view of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe. San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is one of those special places which, as soon as you see it, you know will stay with you forever. Torn between the immensity of the Cantabrian Sea and the so-lemnity of the Basque Coast's cliffs, the Gaztelugatxe islet is imbued with a mystic atmosphere and magic which washes over everyone who comes to see it.
